A Native Wampanoag Wedding Reenacted

This special ceremony will demonstrate its own rituals of reverence and joy, as it relates to the Wampanoag culture. Museum guests will see the ceremony, celebration, feasting and the fun that would have accompanied this very important rite of passage for a young Native couple. The reenacted feast begins after the ceremony and the traditional Native football game begins at 3pm.

Held in the tea hut situated in a Japanese garden on the museum grounds. Shofuan, the "Wind in The Pines Hut" was built in Kyoto Japan in 1969 and reassembled here in 1975. Shofuan is a traditional san jo daime (3 & 3/4 size) hut. Japanese huts are described by the number of mats they accommodate.
